As one of the capitals of the world, London offers a seemingly endless range of activities and attractions. You could indulge in the city’s rich history and culture for days visiting museums, historic sites and traditional pubs. However, for those who want the out-of-the-ordinary experience, it is the perfect place with its modern entertainment venues, restaurants and bars. London also attracts a great deal of the gay community owing to the famous gay villages in Soho and Vauxhall.
In London's West End in Soho, you'll find Old Compton Street which has become the centre of the gay community. Along with gay bars, restaurant and cafes, there's a popular Prince Edward Theatre, and sex shops Soho Original Books and Janus. Admiral Duncan pub is an interesting site there since in 1999 it was subjected to a bombing aimed at the gay community killing three people and injuring many. It was reopened and redecorated with a pride flag and purple and pink exterior paint.
Another gay village is Vauxhall. Located at the inner part of central London, Vauxhall is home to many popular gay bars and nightclubs. The Royal Vauxhall Tavern is very famous as it is one of the oldest gay venues. The Fire Night Club on Parry Street is worth visiting as it is one of the largest nightclubs located in railway arches underneath the main line of Waterloo station. That area has a lot more to offer including exclusive gay gym, Paris Gym, Chariots gay sauna, Barcode, Sunday Morning Afterhouse venue, Beyond party at Area club, etc. You might hear Vauxhall refered to as Voho as it is constantly expanding as a gay village.
If you'd like to see some live performances, head to Koko on Camden High Street, O2 Academy Brixton, the Roundhouse or the Barbican Centre.
Stoke Newington is a great place to go in East London if you like cozy streets full of cafes and vintage stores surrounded by green areas. Notting Hill is worth visiting if you'd like to experience the posh side of London. Peckham has become the new hipster hangout especially because of many art schools and studios.
